The one where we hiked up 330 meters...and it was fun!!

On most days....I feel like this....

But...today, the boys and I went to an ensoku ("school hike and picnic") with Koji's daycare, so I had to wake up at 6:00 to get our bentos ("boxed lunch") ready. When making bentos for the boys, they are very different about what they want to eat...Issei is pretty much "anything will be good", while Koji is a. bit. more. particular. Karaage ("seasoned fried chicken pieces"), meatballs, small sausages, onigiri ("rice balls") with seaweed wrapped around and vegetables, please." Yes, sir...I'll get right on that sir.

And here is what it looked like when we had our picnic!!

So...from the daycare, parents, kids and teachers walked UP, through the neighborhood...and up...and up....

We stopped about 1/4 of the way up to take a break....this was the view from where we were...

Issei (in back) and Koji (l) and his very good friend Ma-kun. Koji said that Ma-kun was his best friend...he has a lot of friends, but Ma-kun...."I like him."(His real name is Masayo, but..."kun" is used for little boys, we use "chan", as in "Debbie-chan" for girls!!)

And still, we went up....and up......and....

....until we finally got to the top (1 and 1/2 hours later!!) where there is a beautiful park overlooking the whole of Nagasaki City!!! The day was absolutely gorgeous....sunshine...no clouds...slight breeze and the temperature was about 65 degrees (I'm taking a major guess at that!!!)

The boys spent most of their time taking their sled...which Koji carried the whole way.... up the hill and then sliding down. The majority of the kids were doing this on a really nice grassy hill...but, no...not my boys and their friends...they were sliding down on the hill next to the nice one....the one with the rocks...and sticks...and bumps...Issei said it was more fun..."kind of dangerous"!!! *sigh*

Then it was time to go home again....many people chose to go back down the mountain on the road...or they went by bus or taxi....and we (me grudgingly!!) went back the way we came....down the mountain path..(notice how many people didn't do this!!!)

By the time we got home....I was so tired, so I had a couple of these....

...then took a nice long bath.

And now.....this is me....

...I'm tired...but it's a good kind of tired...it's one of those "we had an incredible day" kind of tired.

I like to have those....my body will disagree with me tomorrow, I'm thinking, but for now..yeah...anytime I can spend the day, like that, with my boys....then it's a day to wish for again.

It sounds wonderful. They do have Advil in Japan, right?

Sounds like a great day with lots of exercise and beautiful weather. Those Bentos are awesome but isn't it a lot of work to put something in each of those little boxes? I guess it's just what you are used to and probably far healthier than what my kids get!

Wow, the weather where you are was WAAAAAAY different then here. It snowed on and off all day, and only stuck this morning at 7:30. I usually would sleep until 12:00 on Saturday, but I had a hockey game and had to be there at 8:45. But go to my blog and there were most likely be a post about my day and game. Bye!!!

What an amazing hike and your picnic looked so delish!! I think it's great how the kids use the sled to go down grass hills; we're so used to the snow here, I'd never even think of that.

You deserved that beer, girl (I like that brand too, we pick it up every so often); hope the rest of the weekend is a bit more restful.

It does feel good when it "hurts" after a good workout, doesn't it?

Sounds like so much fun. I will gladly trade you all the food here for all the food there! I can only imagine how good I would feel if I ate like that all the time.

Oh yeah, you didn't even ask what a Knob Noster is!?! It's as if you have been there before.

And that guy is King Buzzo of the Melvins... you would probably hate them. They were Nirvana's favortie band tho. I don't listen to a lot of Heavy Metal Music but I have a soft spot I guess...

Oh wow, what a gorgeous day.

And I have never seen sleds put to use that way. I love it!

Hope your body's fully recovered!! :)

Nice account. Sometimes these long, hard trips are really good for the soul. Especially when there is lots of kid laughter.
